Caerphilly
As a member of the Caerphilly Sports Development Team I have a key role in ensuring that everyone is given an equal opportunity to take part in sport and physical activity. One of the key successes has been working with the team to create partnerships across a wide range of sports from swimming to football, hockey to rugby. The links within the team has meant that we can create opportunities for people to take part in activities specifically designed for them and also to become integrated in mainstream activities.
One of the big successes of the summer has been the hockey programme. The sessions provided skills and games for children with a disability, which ran alongside the hockey summer programme. The WHU Hockey Activators lead a variety of sessions supported by Hockey Club Development Officer Beverly Rogers and myself, Paul Taylor.

Over 230 children and 32 coaches from across Caerphilly borough came together for a hockey extravaganza.
Pontllanfraith Comprehensive School hosted the event organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Sports Development Officers Bev Rogers and Paul Taylor in partnership with Select Education.
The children were divided up into countries Olympic style and competed against one and other for a prestigious trophy presented by Welsh International Hockey player Dawn Mitchell.
Throughout the day every child had the opportunity to develop their hockey skills and represent their dedicated country, with the help of all 32 coaches deployed by CCBC Sports Development. The event was organised to raise the profile of hockey and recruit for the 5 highly successful clubs currently running throughout the borough including specialist disability clubs.
Cllr. Phil Bevan, Cabinet Member for Education and Leisure said, "It’s fantastic to see so many young people come together to develop their Hockey skills. Physical activity is key for our young people to lead a healthy lifestyle and our Sports Development team never fails to deliver first class events across the county borough."
